Financial institutions serve as the foundation of the financial world, playing a critical role in maintaining the stability of global systems. Even on a more local level, banks and credit unions significantly influence individuals and communities. This ranking aims to showcase the institutions most valued by residents in each state and to recognize the banks that have excelled in meeting the unique needs and expectations of their local communities.
The analysis included more than 500,000 data sets containing recommendations from over 26,000 participants. Participants evaluated banks and credit unions on several criteria, including Trust, Financial Advice, Customer Services, Digital Services, Branch Services, and Terms & Conditions. A score for the publicly available reviews was created using both ratings and written publicly available reviews from each bank in each state.

About the project
The ranking “America’s Best Banks In Each State” is intended to show which institutions are most valued by residents of each state and to highlight the banks that stood out for fulfilling the unique needs and expectations of their local communities. In this way, Forbes and Statista are awarding America’s Best-In-State Banks for the eighth year running.
The ranking of the best banks in each state is based on two sources:
1. A survey of approximately 26,000 U.S. residents was conducted using an online access panel. Participants were asked to name all banks where they have a checking / savings account. They had to rate the bank based on various evaluation criteria (e.g., trust, terms & conditions). For each criterion, a detailed battery of questions was asked.
2. For each bank in each state a sentiment analysis approach of publicly available online text reviews and ratings was applied. Analyzed reviews were written between February 2022 and March 2025.
In each state, the banks with the highest combined score from the analysis of survey results and publicly available reviews were awarded.
