How we work

Scoring

The scoring model is based on 3 pillars:

  • hospital recommendations from medical experts,
  • the voluntary Statista Smart Hospitals Maturity Survey,
  • and accreditation data.
Group 1162

Concept

For the list of World’s Best Specialized Hospitals, the following was taken into consideration:

(1) From May to July 2024, Statista invited hospital managers and medical professionals with knowledge about smart hospitals to an online survey. The survey was available to medical professionals to participate on Newsweek.com. Additionally, participants were invited via e-mail. Participants were asked to recommend notable smart hospitals. International recommendations were weighted higher than national recommendations for each hospital. Furthermore, participants could name a standout category: Artificial intelligence, digital imaging, electronic functionalities, robotics, telemedicine, and virtualization. Recommendations for own employer were not allowed. Additionally, recommendation data from last year’s cycle was included.

(2) Hospitals were invited to participate in the Statista Smart Hospitals Maturity Survey to assess the implementation and usage of smart technologies in the hospital. The survey was structured around 10 topics (e.g., electronic functionalities, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, robotics).

(3) Furthermore, data from The Joint Commission International (JCI) hospital accreditation was included in the scoring model. For healthcare organizations from the United States, the accreditation from the Joint Commission (TJC) was used as an equivalent.

Evaluation

For the evaluation, Statista R applies a scoring model. Scores were calculated for each hospital in each of the three categories and weighted accordingly: Peer recommendations (82.5%: 72.5% from current cycle; 10% from last year’s cycle), Statista Smart Hospitals Maturity Survey (15%), and JCI Accreditation (2.5%).
