Statista PROMs Implementation Survey

To account for the increasing importance of value-based care in healthcare systems worldwide, Statista is surveying hospitals regarding their Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation status. PROMs are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life related to an episode or experience of care.

Newsweek and Statista recognize the importance of this topic for global advancements in healthcare delivery and, together with the guidance of Statista’s global board of medical experts, have developed a survey about the implementation and use of PROMs across different specialties and departments in hospitals. The implementation of PROMs adds a patient-outcome focused dimension and improves the comprehensiveness of the rankings.

The current survey period for the PROMs implementation survey is open from September 18, 2024 to November 29, 2024. You can view the survey here. The responses from the survey will be taken into account for all hospital rankings in 2025.

Scoring

The scoring model is based on 3 pillars:

– hospital recommendations from medical experts,

– accreditations and certifications data,

– and the PROMs Implementation Survey.

Group 1162

Concept

For the list of World’s Best Specialized Hospitals, the following was taken into consideration:

(1) From May to July 2024, Statista invited hospital managers and medical professionals in over 30 countries to an online survey. The survey was available to medical professionals to participate on Newsweek.com. Additionally, participants were invited via e-mail. Participants were asked to recommend hospitals in their own field of expertise and were able to recommend hospitals of a secondary field. Furthermore, participants had the opportunity to name a standout specialty for the list of pediatrics. Recommendations for own employer were not allowed. Additionally, recommendation data from last year’s cycle was included.

(2) Accreditations and certifications were incorporated as a proxy for quality metrics within the scoring model (where available). The accreditations/certifications reflect a range of structural and/or quality requirements which are relevant for the specialized rankings. Examples are CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and JCI (Joint Commission International).

(3) Additionally, data collected from hospitals from the PROMs Implementation Survey were factored into scorings.

Evaluation

For the evaluation, Statista R applies a scoring model. Scores were calculated for each hospital in each of the three categories and weighted accordingly: Peer recommendations (90%: 80% from current cycle; 10% from last year’s cycle), accreditations/certifications (6.5%), and PROMs implementation survey (3.5%).
