About the project

The ranking “America’s Best-In-State Banks” is intended to show which institutions are most valued by residents of each state and to highlight the banks that stood out for fulfilling the unique needs and expectations of their local communities. In this way, Forbes and Statista are awarding America’s Best-In-State Banks for the seventh year running.

The ranking of the best banks in each state is based on two sources:
1. A survey of approximately 26,000 U.S. residents was conducted using an online access panel. Participants were asked to name all banks where they have a checking / savings account. They had to rate the bank based on various evaluation criteria (e.g., trust, terms & conditions). For each criterion, a detailed battery of questions was asked.
2. For each bank in each state a sentiment analysis approach of publicly available online text reviews and ratings was applied.(1) Analyzed reviews were written between February 2021 and March 2024.

In each state, the banks with the highest combined score from the analysis of survey results and publicly available reviews were awarded.
