The top patent law firms are selected based on the number of recommendations. In total, 177 recommended firms offering the services of patent attorneys are in the overall top list, sorted in alphabetical order.

Firms that were especially recommended for their services in one of the six selected sectors have been listed on the respective sector lists. They were ranked in three classes: gold (very frequently recommended), silver (frequently recommended) and bronze (recommended).

The participants directly invited to the survey were selected from trusted sources such as the website of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPO). Participants taking part via a link published on the website of the Financial Times had to validate themselves, e. g. by entering their dedicated company e-mail address before their answers were considered for evaluation.

All data collected in the survey was carefully checked by Statista. Self-recommendations (recommending one’s own law firm) and attempts to participate multiple times were prohibited and not taken into consideration.

The websites as well as the country of origin of the awarded companies have been researched and recorded.
