Statista PROMs implementation survey

To account for the increasing importance of value-based care in healthcare systems worldwide, Statista is surveying hospitals regarding their Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation status. PROMs are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life related to an episode or experience of care.

Newsweek and Statista recognize the importance of this topic for global advancements in healthcare delivery and, together with the guidance of Statista’s global board of medical experts, have developed a survey about the implementation and use of PROMs across different specialties and departments in hospitals. The implementation of PROMs adds a patient-outcome focused dimension and improves the comprehensiveness of the rankings.

The upcoming survey period for the PROMs implementation survey will begin in autumn 2025 and will be open for participation here.

Project Details

About the project

The ranking for Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific (APAC) 2025 is based on an international online survey of thousands medical professionals as well as accreditation and certification data. The ranking features the top 125 hospitals for cardiology, oncology and pediatrics, top 100 for neurology and top 75 hospitals for cardiac surgery, endocrinology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology. Hospitals that specialize in more than one medical field received specific recommendation scores for each medical field based on the respective recommendations. Therefore, one hospital can be represented in more than one list if it receives enough recommendations in each medical field.

Furthermore, this edition of the ranking includes a PROMs implementation score based on the voluntary Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation survey conducted by Statista. The upcoming survey period for the PROMs implementation survey will begin in autumn 2025. Pre-registration is available here.

Concept

For the lists the following data sources were taken into consideration:

  • International online survey: During the survey period from February to March 2025, medical professionals and staff working in the management/administration in the respective countries were invited to an online survey in cooperation with Newsweek.
  • Certifications: International and national accreditations and certifications relevant to the respective medical specialties and general hospital quality were considered.
  • Statista PROMS Implementation survey: In October to December 2024, Newsweek and Statista conducted a voluntary PROMs Implementation survey to account for the increasing importance of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in hospitals worldwide.

Data collection

Medical experts were invited by Statista and Newsweek to participate in an online survey to recommend hospitals on a national and international level. Recommendations for own employer were not allowed. Data on hospital certifications and accreditations from publicly available sources was evaluated as well. Additionally, the PROMs implementation survey was conducted by Statista to assess the PROMs implementation status of hospitals.

Evaluation

For the evaluation, Statista R applies a scoring model. Scores were calculated for each hospital in each of the three categories and weighted accordingly:

International recommendations (55%, consisting of 70% recommendations from peers for primary medical field and 30% recommendations from peers for secondary medical field), national recommendations (30%), certifications (10%) and PROMs (5%). For the PROMs pillar: only hospitals which achieved a minimum of 50% (of the maximum 100% score) were eligible to be graded and received a maximum of up to 5% towards the total score.

Disclaimer

The rankings are comprised exclusively of hospitals that are eligible regarding the scope described in this document. The ranking is the result of an elaborate process which, due to the interval of data-collection and analysis, is a reflection of the last 12 months.

Furthermore, events preceding or following the period April 30, 2024 – April 30, 2025, and/or pertaining to individual persons affiliated/associated to the facilities were not included in the metrics. As such, the results of this ranking should not be used as the sole source of information for future deliberations. The information provided in this ranking should be considered in conjunction with other available information about hospitals or, if possible, accompanied by a visit to a facility. The quality of hospitals that are not included in the rankings is not disputed.
